Public Paranormal Guided Tour (1.5-2 hrs).ALL the tours and overnight are by ADVANCE RESERVATION only. These tours, unless personally scheduled for your group, happen only on the weekends and only in the evening. There are tour options each March-August by reservation, with options such as basic guided tours or public investigations. History and paranormal enthusiasts Charles and Tina Mattingly now run the building, what is now considered 'one of the most haunted places in America'. It was considered to be 'one of the most modern and well-equipped facility at the time'. The construction began in 1924 and it was completed in 1926. So the city solicited funds to build a larger Waverly Hills. The 3rd hospital was built because the city hospital closed for a rebuild and it was decided they would no longer accept TB patients. The second hospital was built in 1912 and together they accommodated 210 patients.
That when the first hospital was built (1910). In 1909 Major Hays sold his farm to the Louisville tuberculosis board. Sanatoriums had some success and started springing up across the country in the late 1800s and early 1900s. There is an interesting and long-standing history surrounding this now-spooky building, best explained by the Waverly Hills Historical Society themselves:Ī strong effort to cure people of TB began in the mid-1800s.
